During June 2011 line 5 of the Shenzhen Metro, also known as the Huanzhong Line, opened for service in time for the 2011 Shenzhen World University Games.

Westinghouse Platform Screen Doors (WPSD) was selected to supply 1,770 Platform Screen Doors and Platform Edge Doors which have now been installed and commissioned on all of the stations on the route.

The WPSD doors equip 59 platforms that serve Line 5 over a period of seven months. The line is 40 km in length with a total number of 27 underground and ground level stations.

The project builds upon the successful installation of 1,386 doorways that were produced by WPSD during phase 1 of the Mass Transit Rail system development which opened in 2004.
